"We at the Sutter Buttes Regional Land Trust acknowledge that our mission of protecting and maintaining the natural and agricultural resources in and around the region currently called the Sutter Buttes was carried out by members of local indigenous tribes for thousands of years. We acknowledge that this indigenous stewardship was disrupted, leading to a loss of cultural heritage and a loss of native plants and animals. We acknowledge that people with ancestral connections to the land are still here among us today, and that a myriad of people consider these lands sacred."
